Pumpkins, Sun, and Ale: Autumn in Half Moon Bay
Fall has arrived! It’s an important season for the Half Moon Bay community. As the summer marine layer retreats and lets the sun shine on the coast, visitors come in droves to pick their Halloween pumpkins at our famous pumpkin patches.
Our brewers are among the consumers of our coastal pumpkins, using locally grown Sugar Pie pumpkins for our fall seasonal Pumpkin Harvest Ale. This Amber features a secret blend of spices that gives it a subtle pumpkin spice flavor that we so crave this time of year. With pumpkin, yam, and malt starches, this beer has a biscuity maltiness with a subtle spice finish.
"We added pumpkin to both the mash and the boil, and the normal hop aroma and flavor of a typical amber ale has been reduced which allows the pumpkin character come through," reports brewmaster James Costa. Ever pursuing balance and excellence in his creations, Costa has once again delivered an excellent brew.
You can find this seasonal sensation on tap at our restaurant and brewery in Half Moon Bay or at the Pacific Standard Taproom in Berkeley. Come join us for a pint, or take your beer to go. We’ll fill growlers, and at our brewery we’ll also fill and seal our 32 Oz. crowlers with beer fresh from the tap! We’re excited to have our crowler filling system installed and operational. The crowler will take your favorite beer farther and keep it fresh longer than any bottle will!
We’re looking forward to hosting the 2017 Coastside Brewfest. A beneficiary for the Mavericks Community Foundation, we’ll be tasting our favorite brews from our favorite local breweries paired with live music and local cuisine. Tickets are on sale now for $30. Tickets are available at the door for $35.
And, of course, the 2017 Half Moon Bay Art & Pumpkin Festival is right around the corner! Come for the biggest annual event on the coastside, where every local business, restaurant, gallery, and vendor has a special piece of our community (or pie!) to share with you. Half Moon Bay Brewing Company will be serving fresh, cold brews from our refrigerated mobile tap unit, the Hoptrotter. Look for our brews on tap at the "Take 5 Lounge" at 645 Correas Street and the Made on the Coast Music Stage at Cunha’s Country Store at 448 Main Street.
Come for the pumpkins and stay for the sunshine! The fall is the best time to visit Half Moon Bay, with so much to do, see, and harvest! If you’re thinking of coming in today, take a look at our live beer menus for both our brewery and restaurant at 390 Capistrano Rd., Half Moon Bay, and the Pacific Standard Taproom at 2055 Center Street d in Berkeley.
