Brews & Views welcomes Cabrillo Unified School District's Board President Sophia Layne Superintendent Sean McPhetridge, and Brookwood Advisors Allan Katz and Chris White for a discussion about CUSD's mission, vision, and strategies, including a preview of Cabrillo Unified School District’s current design of 60 rental townhomes and apartments for faculty and staff in Half Moon Bay.

 

Admission and snacks are complimentary. Beer, wine and other beverages will be available for sale at the event. Ten percent of the proceeds from all dinner sales at Half Moon Bay Brewing Company for this event will be donated to the Cabrillo Education Foundation.

Guest Bios:

Dr. Sean McPhetridge, Superintendent Cabrillo Unified School District

Dr. Sean McPhetridge was hired to serve as Superintendent of Cabrillo Unified School District in 2019 after serving for five years in the same role in Alameda Unified School District. In 2022, the CUSD Governing Board renewed his contract for another four years. Dr. McPhetridge earned a doctorate in education from Harvard University, an administrative credential from California State University at Sacramento, a master’s degree from Claremont Graduate University, and a bachelor’s degree from University of California at Los Angeles. Proficient in Spanish, Dr. McPhetridge has worked for thirty years in various educational roles and settings.

Sophia Layne, Board President Cabrillo Unified School District

Sophia Layne is in her second term as a member of the CUSD Governing Board. She also actively advocates for public education as Vice President of the San Mateo County School Board Association and a Delegate and Legislative Committee Member of the California School Board Association. She spent 16 years in various leadership roles at Genentech and other biotech and consulting firms in the Bay Area after earning her Masters' degree at NYU and Bachelors' at Rutgers University.

Alan Katz, President & Vice Chairman  Brookwood Group

Alan Katz is Brookwood’s President and serves as Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors. He is the firm's senior officer in the San Francisco office. He is particularly focused on development, investment, entitlements, strategic real estate planning, property analysis and development management activities. Alan’s experience as an urban designer, architect, corporate real estate leader and private sector developer guides his understanding, relationships and strategies in both the private and public sector projects.

Chris White, Brookwood Group San Francisco 

Chris is involved in the firm’s Bay Area principal development and advisory projects including 380 units of high-rise housing in Oakland and the entitlement of more than 1,000 residential units on the San Francisco Peninsula. Chris has been involved in several of Brookwood’s other high-density housing and mixed-use projects including a commercial, hospitality and residential project in Santa Clara. In addition to the development management of these projects, Chris is providing the financial analysis and proforma underwriting for the project capitalization.
